Account managers get paid in several ways:
Base plus commission package, and an expense account is the most common. The wage starts at about $24,000 and goes up to $ 60,000. Some companies pool commissions in the hope to create teamwork.
The most common way to make commissions in general is based on the net profit. That is defined as the full fee in the direct placement, the net profit in contact staffing.
For an example, if someone makes a direct placement for 20,000, the account manager gets 10% of that 20,000 or 20% of his half of the fee and the other half going to the person doing the recruiting. Just a warning though when the percentage is higher there is a chance of not getting a base salary. When companies ask for gross margin percentage, generally they tend to look for account managers who are successful in negotiating 25-30% gross margin percentages. Translation — if you want to bring home $100,000 of personal income then you need to negotiate at least $600-700,000 total a year.
Bottom line is to get a job as an Account manager you need to earn a Master's in Business Administration or a general one at the least to make you more marketable to companies looking for someone who can manage the accounts.
