What does it take to be an Advertising Copywriter?

by Silas Reed
An advertising copywriter is the person who is responsible for writing copy for ads, brochures and similar marketing literature. If you are into the job all you need to do is be creative with your thoughts and ideas and put them into pen and paper. Advertising copywriters have an excellent job of eliciting the creativity of the idea and putting it into blurbs, headlines and texts of advertisements. All you need to get started is to learn the basics of entry level copywriting and start a prospective career. For those of you for whom writing comes naturally, advertising copywriting can be a fun career that is at the same time creatively rewarding.

The copy writer needs to think of the concept or idea for the advertisement. He needs to write slogans and punch lines. Also, the ad copywriter needs to work out the ad presentation. Depending on the job, an ad copywriter might also need to play his part in ads for print, electronic or online media.

The collection of words and images in the form of an advertisement is something that is the job of the advertising copywriter. You need to be original, inventive, and observant other than having a broader perspective and approach to situations. A copywriter also needs to work with the art directors, print agencies, photographers and other members of the crew.
