Building a Business without Advertising
It is not a joke to start a business. It needs lots of hard work, dedication, and investment. There are people who spend more money for advertising their business. Some do it with a shoe string budget. But can you believe me if I say that it is possible to build your business without advertising? Yes. That is true.
You can promote your business in many ways other than advertising. Here are few ways of building your business without advertising:
1. The most important way is promoting your business through word of mouth advertising. People love to give business to people whom they know or whom their friends knew. So make it a point to satisfy your customers so that you can get referrals from them.
2. Try to join business networking groups. And when introducing yourself at the networks, be clear and concise.
3. You can write articles about your business and submit it to local newspapers or magazines. They are great free promotional tools.
4. You can post messages and comments in various specialized forums available on the Internet. Do not forget to post your business information as the signature.
5. Build a network with your business colleagues. The knowledge and experience of this network can be a great resource for you.
6. Try to attend the professional group meetings which would be conducted by Rotary clubs or other business bureaus. This is a great way to create a network.
7. Try to give your business card to almost all people whom you meet in the meetings. Even if they don’t need it, they can spread your business to their friends.
8. Be active and involved in the community where you live. This may help to expand your business.
9. And last but not least, try to give an excellent customer service. Poor customer service can spoil your business.
It is your business and you need to promote it. Try to spend at least an hour a day on planning about promoting your business. And you can build your business by budgeting your time and not money.

A few years ago, I spoke with a man (now retired) who had worked in a large corporation for forty years and in his last twenty years, he basically did nothing. He was paid very well and was more or less forgotten—doing very little of anything. He would show up at the office at 9:00 a.m. each day, try to look busy—do a task now and then—and then get in his car at 5:30 p.m. each evening and dr... |
