Position Purpose: The Owned Brand Copy Specialist, Omnichannel helps Petco owned brands build positive, emotional connections with our customers. This role is responsible for conceptualizing and writing unique, emotionally engaging, educational, persuasive, concise and well-organized product copy for Petco.com to support Petco Owned Brand business objectives of raising brand awareness and driving sales. Ensures all copy development and enrichment adheres to the established brand voices and is regulatory compliant. Essential Job Functions: The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation. Write clearly and concisely for a variety of brands and audiences. Organize information logically and coherently. Develop brand-right, original, educational, and emotional copy for various products on Petco.com Insightful understanding of different brand positioning and the ability to write copy that brings the specific brand to life and is different from the other owned brands in portfolio. Complete complex research assignments and keep up with consumer pet-related trends. Develop familiarity with Owned Brand products in order to identify features and benefits and ensure copy is thorough and accurate. Translate complex instructions into user-friendly copy. Craft imaginative, benefit-driven names for products that will resonate with the target customer. Use SEO best practices to optimize content and stay up-to-date with best practices in writing for the web, web usability and business/industry trends. Produce strong and compelling product copy that aligns with the creative brief driven by innovative ideas and understanding the project initiatives and brand objectives. Protect business by ensuring copy has stylistic, NIST, NASC, regulatory and legal approvals. Contribute to editorial and proofreading decisions. Serve as editor for works created by others. Willingness to receive guidance, direction and editing from stakeholders. Continually collaborate effectively with Site Merchandising, Brand Managers, Product Development, Merchant teams and others to understand product attributes and achieve business results. Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within firm timeframes.Participate in and contributes ideas individually and in group settings. Verify Petco continually follows all legal and regulatory requirements, while staying consistent with brand identity and voice. Attend project status meetings as needed. Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have direct administrative supervisory responsibility. Position reviews the work of freelance or temporary copywriters and provides functional and editorial guidance. Guidance is defined as but not limited to input and direction on such topics as objectives, strategy, implementation and execution Work Environment: The majority of job duties are conducted while seated indoors, with little or no exposure to hazards. There is frequent work using a keyboard and frequent reading with close attention to detail. Some local travel may be required. Long distance and air travel may be required for trainings and conferences. QualificationsEducation/Experience: Normally requires a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, preferably in English, journalism, communications, advertising or marketing and a minimum five years progressively responsible copywriting experience with at least two of those years writing packaging copy either within an agency, Consumer Packaged Goods or retail environment. Work experience should include copywriting across a spectrum of different marketing touch points for a continuous period of at least one year on one brand with demonstrated results. An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be substituted for a degree. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Requires a strong command of the English language and writing styles. Must be an independent, conceptual thinker who is able to 'tell a story' within each unique voice and tone of our Private Brands. Balancing creative thinking with interpersonal and analytical skills, this person will demonstrate an ability to craft both emotional and descriptive product copy on packaging and organize hierarchy of information. The ideal candidate has a high level of initiative and excellent organizational skills, requiring the ability manage multiple large-scale projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast paced retail environment.
