This is a mid-level professional position reporting to the Senior Manager, Public Affairs, Strategic Communications and Content.

The Public Affairs Manager, in coordination with the senior manager and managing director, is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the AIA’s PR and communications efforts. The manager serves as a point of contact with AIA’s PR agencies on record, vendors and other communications partners and is responsible for implementing a broad range of public relations activities associated with AIA’s public awareness campaign.

The manager of public affairs, must be able to work collaboratively with senior leadership to develop and implement strategies that reach targeted audiences.

Job Duties

Plan, manage, and execute grassroots outreach in alignment with public awareness efforts.

Design and develop “toolkit” and template materials.

Provide PR/communications training for AIA members and components.

Develop a consistent and successful method for measuring success.

Work with AIA chapters to execute earned media events in their respective locales.

Develop strategies to increase awareness and generate earned media that align with the AIA PA efforts.

Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders for future collaboration.

As directed by the Sr. Manager, Public Affairs serve as a liaison for the AIA Public Outreach Committee.

Work with marketing, content and media relations teams to develop PR calendar and content that is on-message, on-brand, and supports the public awareness efforts.

Create and maintain relationships with contacts at companies that can provide content and resources that support AIA’s PA campaign.

Create, maintain, and develop “database” of spokespeople for various PA initiatives.

Work with AIA departments to create content or initiatives that align with the PA campaign.

As directed by the Sr. Manager, Public Affairs communicate updates and new developments around the AIA PR efforts to members, and AIA employees to achieve understanding and alignment.

Must be an effective communicator and public speaker

Must be a confident communicator and presenter.

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills.

Have a full understanding of media needs and media relationships.

Be proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate with an attention to detail.

Possess the ability to keep information confidential.

Tactical understanding of all primary social media platforms.

Ability to work in high-stress environments, often for long hours.

A wide degree of creativity and latitude.

Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management.

Bachelor’s Degree in PR, journalism, communications, marketing, advertising or related field with a minimum of five years of professional experience with public relations campaigns.
