for a Chief Engineer to assist in the company's rapid growth in product development.
The basic job responsibilities for this position are as follows:
Leading the effort to take new product designs through to prototyping
Responsible for making lighting fixtures UL/ETL certified. Works with foreign manufacturers to determine what needs to be done to make the lighting fixtures certified.
Determines whether foreign manufacturer or internal production staff will modify the fixtures to make them certified. Communicates that information to purchasing so that it can negotiate pricing terms appropriately.
Determines what materials are needed to modify the fixtures for certification. Communicates that information to purchasing so that the appropriate parts can be ordered.
Establishes the internal modification procedures needed to bring each fixture up to the UL/ETL rating.
Responsible for Quality Control of the modification process. Tests modified fixtures to make sure they adhere to UL/ETL standards.
Creates or coordinates the creation of product drawings on CAD. These drawings will be used at on the web by sales personnel and customers, included with installation instructions for products and included on the Internet for use by architects and designers. Create a bill of material and add it in our ERP.
Develops and automated CAD system to be used by architects and designers on the Internet.
Conduct internal safety tests and document findings
Notifies President, Inventory Manager, Purchasing Manager and Showroom Manager of any discovered product defects via e-mail and in person.
Answers technical questions from sales and customer service personnel.
Contributes to the team effort by assisting others as needed. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
This position reports directly to the President.
Engineering degree with emphasis in electricity preferred.
10 years previous experience working with thermal, electrical and mechanical testing per UL standards.
Prior experience leading an engineering team
Computer literate, able to use Excel, Word, Outlook, and lab software.
Experience working with LED’s or similar electronic assemblies
Experience working with light fixture manufacturing
Experience working with outsourced production.
Self-motivated and willing to learn.
Good written communication skills.
