Overview
The Director\u2019s role is managerial, but also one of agency leadership. This individual may own a planning group and their responsibility may extend from complete oversight of assigned clients, to staff management and development. This person sets the working style for the group and is responsible for the media work and planning operations for assigned accounts across multiple media channels. The Director also provides strategic leadership and understands all aspects of their client\u2019s business. The Director cultivates senior relationships within the agency, with clients and with media properties. They are also active in the media community \u2013 sitting on panels and other public opportunities.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Media Planning and Execution:\u2022 Responsible for total management of an assigned client\u2019s business (both traditional and digital) throughout the entire strategic, planning and implementation process\u2022 Is in command of the business, \u201cowns the role\u201d\u2022 Develop a tight partnership with all agency service line leads to ensure proper team resource management and adherence to contract terms\u2022 Identify all up-sell opportunities with existing clients, including ability to sell Carat and Aegis offerings\u2022 Collaborate with Group Director in the creation and negotiation of yearly client contracts and supplemental proposals and manage account profitability\u2022 Collaborate with Group Director in setting negotiations strategies\u2022 Research and implement new techniques and technologies that are relevant for clients\u2019 media strategies\u2022 Successfully lead the utilization of resources to help guide client\u2019s marketing goals in their respective markets (syndicated, proprietary, analyst data)\u2022 Draw insight from program results and ensure dialogue with client and internal team on informed strategic implications\u2022 Provide and discuss industry information on media, markets and related dynamics\u2022 Build and maintain relationships with media community; continue to develop partners and higher relationships for exchange of ideas\u2022 Solicits new industry concepts and tools that will help grow and enhance client businesses\u2022 Effectively contributes client \u201ccase studies\u201d to national organization
Client & Internal Relationships:\u2022 Build trusting collaborative relationships with clients of all levels\u2022 Maintain senior client relationships\u2022 Manage expectations of clients and deliverables\u2022 Stay on top of business and client concerns to head off issues early\u2022 Accurately represents the client\u2019s point of view when reviewing work, leverage this perspective when providing feedback to team and presenting to client, ultimately focused on doing the best work for the Client\u2019s business\u2022 Invest time to investigate opportunities for providing better Client support \u2022 Ensure collaboration among all Agency departments; fosters great teamwork\u2022 Include Carat Executives in appropriate Client meetings\u2022 Provide appropriate management updates and solicit feedback and direction when appropriate \u2022 Participate and present in New Business efforts and presentations, where appropriate
Strategic Thinking & Leadership:\u2022 Demonstrate a knowledge of client brands, brands equity, consumer definition and motivations\u2022 Lead and contribute to the development of strategic and tactical media plans \u2022 Articulate effective strategic rationale and logic flow\u2022 Develop specific, measurable client business objectives\u2022 Develop strategies and tactics by media discipline, where appropriate\u2022 Ensure key information is provided to team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, changes in account status, etc.\u2022 Respond appropriately when presented with problems and issues\u2022 Seek lasting solutions rather than quick fixes\u2022 Ensure group is properly trained on all internal procedures, best practices and Carat Media tools \u2013 (DDS, Tempo \u2013 additional as needed)\u2022 Assists Carat national with evaluation of new tools and technologies\u2022 Meet with media representatives in order to keep abreast of new technologies and industry trends as well as potential client opportunities\u2022 Evaluate media/communication opportunities and provide sound recommendations as appropriate\u2022 Ensure appropriate staff utilization\u2022 Train, motivate, develop and lead a media planning team\u2022 Construct and deliver accurate, honest and timely performance management documents
Communications Skills:\u2022 Encourage open, ongoing internal communication\u2022 Establish and maintain communications process with clients, and agency service teams for each piece of business within the team\u2022 Develop client presentations and other important communication, communication that is clear, compelling and persuasive\u2022 Lead client presentations\u2022 Adapt communication style to relevant audience\u2022 Link communication to audience\u2019s concerns and perspectives \u2022 Move audience to desired action through clear and persuasive delivery of information\u2022 Communicate key information about our company
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:\u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree\u2022 8-10 years of media planning experience, which include progressive client management experience \u2022 Deep knowledge and experience with multi-channel marketing\u2022 Strong client service experience\u2022 Proven leadership ability \u2013 managed a team of planners & supervisors\u2022 Proven ability to interact with people at all levels of an organization, fostering strong cross-functional teamwork and results\u2022 Strategic thinking ability with balanced analytical and creative approach to tactical planning \u2022 Experience successfully bringing together people from different disciplines, internal and external to achieve desired outcomes \u2022 Understanding of multiple communications channels and their role in brand marketing\u2022 Research experience\u2022 Commitment to delivering creative solutions, and the ability to align team members behind creative solutions\u2022 High-level proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
Experience needed to proceed to the next level:\u2022 Aspiring to expand scope and manage multiple groups/businesses\u2022 Grows client business significantly and/or develops new revenue opportunities\u2022 Increase client regard for Carat media solutions\u2022 Excellent client report card\u2022 Proven track record of contributing to internal operations and business development beyond the specific service line of Media\u2022 Dynamic presence in presentations and other forms of client or internal communications\u2022 Raises group proficiency \u2013 leadership, quality, efficiency\u2022 Excellent team feedback (direct reports and collaborative team partners)\u2022 Understanding of revenue to staffing relationships and motivation to improve metrics\u2022 Maximize client efficiencies through budget control\u2022 Serve as a Carat ambassador and demonstrate grace in challenging internal/external scenarios\u2022 Works within Carat national organization to develop new capabilities and initiatives\u2022 Develops a significant public presence through speaking, writing and participating\u2022 Capable of developing innovations that lead the company
