Summary
Directs, leads and oversees the activities, programs and daily operations of the Internal Communications, Media & Community Relations departments as well as Executive Communications. Develops and implements communication plans and procedures aligned with the MLH vision and priorities, while encouraging stakeholder commitment to the organizational vision, supporting marketing/communication strategies, and facilitating the achievement of the strategic objectives. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Journalism, or related field.
Minimum 2 years of experience in executive communications / marketing leadership in a healthcare organization. Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in journalism, a service industry or agency, or a related field.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Possession of superior communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to lead and motivate individuals and groups of people toward the accomplishment of work and organizational goals with experience in selection, evaluation, and direction of subordinates.
Ability to work and relate well to all levels of Associates, internal and external customers, physicians, operations managers, media, community leaders and the general public.
Ability to work without close supervision or professional guidance and to exercise independent judgment.
Ability to organize multiple priorities and tasks and maintain workflow.
Must be committed to excellent customer service.
Key Job Responsibilities
Develops or directs the development of communication plans to convey key messages to the general public, payers, donors, community leaders, Associates and physician audiences. Facilitates the achievement of the organization’s vision, image and market share goals and the change management process by planning for consistent and frequent delivery of key messages to all target audiences through multiple media channels including print, email, earned media, digital media, etc.
Provides communications counsel for leaders and physicians across the System. Works with senior leadership and Marketing team to develop a comprehensive communications program that will convey to various constituencies the characteristics of quality and value that represent MLH system.
Researches, drafts, and revises speeches, briefings, talking points and messages for senior executives. Identifies creative techniques for conveying information to audiences.
Implements and directs implementation of communications strategies and tactics as outlined in communications plans or on an as-needed basis, and aligns communications with the MLH strategic plan.
Directs the handling of opportunistic and crisis communication situations.
Works closely with Marketing, Web/Digital Strategies and Foundation to ensure appropriate and timely flow of messages across platforms within the scope of those departments.
Develops and tracks metrics by which all communications strategies will be measured for performance against targets.
Maintains and develops a competent, productive, and quality conscious workforce. Develops and implements processes through orientation, training, and education to ensure that the competence of all staff members is assessed, maintained, improved, and demonstrated throughout their employment.
Develops or directs the development of internal human resources communications materials regarding policies and procedures, compensation, benefits changes, etc. Assists in the preparation of speeches and other presentations directed towards Associates with a goal of helping to shape a high performance, value-driven culture that is built on Power of One principles.
Prepares and controls Internal Communications and Media/Community Relations department budgets.
Physical Requirements
The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
Must have good balance and coordination.
The physical requirements of this position are:
light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
Some travel to various local and regional locations, mostly to MLH locations in the Mid-South.
