Job Title: Director, Marketing Communications
Job Location: San Diego, CA
Responsible for enhancing Qdoba’s position, advocacy, and competitive advantage in the marketplace by leading the development of various types of creative campaigns, as well as effectively applying and leveraging the brand’s visual system, voice, and persona. Responsible for overseeing and managing the direction and activities of external and internal creative and merchandising initiatives. Responsible for the strategic and tactical planning, development, implementation, and ongoing execution of the brand’s omnichannel marketing approach, including building brand awareness and driving restaurant sales and customer traffic.
Leads the strategic planning process to develop national, local, and promotional marketing initiatives, plans a calendar that aligns with the overall brand strategy, including activities such as national and local marketing initiatives, media strategy and planning, PR & social media, creative design, field marketing, and franchise marketing support.
Assists the VP of Marketing on the overall creative direction for all assets developed by the Creative Services and Merchandising teams to ensure that the brand’s visual system, voice, persona, and values are represented in the most compelling and accurate manner. Directs, plans, oversees, and manages the short and long-term potential assessment, operational feasibility evaluation, and implementation of new creative and merchandising management ideas and solutions
Serves as a primary member of the external agency management team and oversees meaningful conceptual and executional contributions to the creative product(s) developed by agency partners. Guides multiple agency partners in the development of all core brand communications (advertising, collateral, in-restaurant POP, internal messaging/branding, etc.) and serves as a/the primary point-of-contact for agency partners.
Directs and oversees the establishment and maintenance of creative design standards for all representations of the Qdoba brand at the restaurant level; ensures the continuous evolvement/improvement of the creative process. Develops and implements strategic, creative, and procedural changes, improvements, or augmentations to ensure high efficiency, productivity, and quality levels are continually maintained.
Leads and manages a team of marketing professionals that are culturally aligned, highly functioning, and effective within a “flat” or “matrixed” organizational structure; coaches and leads the team with continuous training, development, and empowerment mindset.
Proactively seeks out and understands new, emerging, and relevant brand marketing trends and identifies potential opportunities for implementation.
Consults with brand leadership and operations partners on sales-building initiatives and tactics.
Stays apprised of Company information; manages the accurate flow of information to and from management and staff in and outside functional area.
Performs other related duties, tasks, and responsibilities as required, assigned, and directed.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Marketing, Advertising, Business Administration or related field. MBA preferred.
10 years of marketing communications experience in a fast-paced, multi-unit growth brand, preferably in the restaurant, retail, or hospitality industry. Experience with a franchise concept preferred. Exceptional knowledge and proven experience in developing effective omnichannel marketing campaigns. Requires prior agency/vendor management experience. Must excel at coaching and developing people and contributing positively to department and organization culture.
Excellent verbal and written English communication, interpersonal, presentation, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Requires exceptional diplomacy and tact. Ability to work well with a wide variety of constituents, including senior management, outside consultants, etc. Requires the ability to influence management and employees, and demonstrated business acumen. Requires the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment. Must be extremely comfortable working in a high-pressure, ever-changing environment that requires a flexible and nimble management approach. Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks and projects, build positive relationships, and work cross-functionally collaboratively and on many levels. Must be able to think both strategically and tactically simultaneously. Proficient knowledge of personal computers and related software applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite). Demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior.
Requires the ability to speak/hear clearly in person and on the telephone. Requires the ability to operate a computer, e.g., desktop, laptop, tablet, etc., and travel 25-35% of the time or as business necessitates. Requires the ability to work outside of regular business hours as needed, including evenings and weekends.
