Run Your Career Based on Facts and Statistics — Not Opinions
Harrison Barnes  |  Dated: 07-03-2009

One of the worst things you can possibly do is run your career based on the opinions of others.  Other people are always going to have differing ideas about where you should work, how much you should work, what salary you should make–and various other subjects relating to your employment.  Rather than making decisions based [...]

Daily Job Search Advice
Do Not Be Controlled By Your Need to Feel Significant
Click to Watch the Video Harrison Barnes

Harrison believes that one of the most important things to any human being is to feel important. We all have the need to feel significant and this need is something that really controls and governs many of our lives. You need to choose how to control your mind.  When you are looking for a job, the most important thing you can do is move away from being attached to the need to feel significant and move, instead, to a position where you are not attached.

Being focused on the work is incredibly important.  Being focused on your own significance is attachment, and all attachments eventually result in disappointment. People who are focused on the work rise to a higher level while those focused on their own significance never make it.

We all want to feel that we are unique and special in some way.  This makes us feel as if we have a purpose and meaning for our lives.  One of the largest challenges of our lives is making sure that we do not meet our need to feel significant in a way that is destructive.  For example, many people in their need to feel significant will try and be critical of others.

You need to understand that your need to feel significant is something that controls your life.  The best thing you can possibly do for your career is detach from this need to feel significant and realize how this is controlling so much of what happens to you.  More importantly, you need to do the work you love and live the life you want without being controlled by a need to be significant.  This will change everything for you and allow you to contribute to the world in a productive way.

Can You Create Better Business Advertising

Have you ever watched TV, for instance, and seen absolutely abominable business advertising for a company? Perhaps it was for a restaurant, yet the advertising had absolutely nothing to do with neither food nor the ambiance of the restaurant. It did not even include a location, as if ''everyone'' would know where it is. Thus, did you say to yourself, ''I could create a much better ad if I worked for them?''

If you answered ''yes'' to the questions above, chances are that you already possess the primary requirements for a business-advertising career.

How to Hire an Advertising Agency

Even if you have a very small business, chances are that you advertise. You may think that your business is not big enough, rich enough, or powerful enough to need an advertising agency, but marketing should be a part of every business plan. Often ad agencies can maximize a small business's results for its marketing budget. Also, advertising can take up a lot of time. If you are spending significant time meeting with ad agencies, studying rates, and selecting media, you may be shortchanging your business by deflecting your attention from your primary business function.

AdvertisingCrossing is a site that will transform your job search and your life.

Our goal is nothing less than to show you every job out there that fits what you want to do.

Unlike any other source, we show you information that is completely nonbiased — just all the jobs. While sites like Monster, CareerBuilder, TheLadders, Indeed, SimplyHired, and others are busy trying to get employers to pay hundreds of dollars to put a job on their site, we are putting those jobs on our site at no cost to employers. We are also taking jobs from every employer site and job site we can find and putting them on our site.

Whether you are seeking a new job, a better job, more job security, a dramatically increased income, a more flexible job, more responsibility — AdvertisingCrossing can help you get there faster and more effectively than any other source.

AdvertisingCrossing is transforming the careers and lives of thousands of people each week, each day — maybe people you know — so let us go to work for you.
